An honest reaction to Anne Frank's diary

Anne Frank is quite an interesting character. It's such a pity that she lived for only 15 years, 2 of which were spent in the suffocating environment of the Annex.

Anne Frank was just normal teen-ager placed in an abnormal situation. The way she reacted to the suppressing situation reflected her confused, unsure and stubborn teen-age personality. To hate her mother for her imperfections, to adore Peter given that she hadn't had any choice of men and to pour out all of her most intimate emotions to Kitty,(of all names!) her diary, are but normal thoughts and actions of the melancholic type of teen-agers of her time, even of today. What made Anne Frank stood out was the need of the post-war world to know and understand more of the war. The world needs a clear picture, an explanation, even a replay of why, what and how the war had been. The world needs to be reminded of the experience and the lessons learned from the war. What more perfect thing to fulfill this need but an honest, hand-written diary of a teen-age girl!

Anne Frank's diary covers most of the aspects of their life in hiding. She even took care and time of writing the ingredients of their food. It is hard to tell whether Anne's opinions of the people around her were exact and fair. But her courage and diligence to put all these in writing is admirable. What makes her book even more captivating is her unexpected bouts of maturity, expressed in surprisingly witty statements about the war and life as a Jew. To think that such almost magical words came from the mind of a teen-age girl makes it heartbreaking and powerfully compelling. From that alone, priceless lessons about life and living are learned.

Anne Frank is quite an interesting character. In her book, she is pictured as talkative, cheerful, idealistic, clever and stubborn. It is painful to read about her dreams and know that she didn't live long enough to know that she fulfilled one... to write and be published. She left a legacy she never even imagined she could, and she shared tons and tons of lessons to the world. She did all that while patiently writing from her lonely corner in the hidden world of the Annex.

The Diary of a Young Girl Anne Frank is not bad, not too good, fairly interesting and highly educational. After all, each page of this book tells of a life once lived... and wasted.
